Chrissi Island is protected by the Natura 2000 program, as an "intense natural beauty" and also has been designated as wildlife shelter. The island hosts the most naturally formed Lebanese cedar forest in Europe. From mid-May to the end of October, there are daily boat services from the port of Ierapetra.
